We’ve seen Kodaline, Kanye West, Foals, Arctic Monkeys, Haim and many more make our Top 10 albums of the last year, and now it’s time to give recognition to our No.1 slot holder.

‘Bad Blood’ is that album that was such a long time coming, was so hyped up and anticipated, that it posed the question “is this gonna live up to expectations?”, and it did.

Bastille weave a genre and sound which can’t be tied down to one name. Elements of alternative, indie and even left of field pop scratches the surface, all accumulating into the collection of tracks ‘Bad Blood’ was set out to be.

This impressive début album scaled No.1 in the UK Album charts and No.5 in Ireland, forcing the conclusion that the questionable wait of quite a few years from frontman Dan Smith, landed in his favour. Having carried the name “Bastille” on his own shoulders for quite some time, before picking up a helping hand by current members, Kyle J Simmons, Chris Wood and William Farquarson, Smith has elegantly created one of the hardest working bands around.

Tracks such as ‘Pompeii’, ‘Flaws’ and ‘Icarus’ lead melodies of an upbeat, feel-good vibe, while the deeper ‘Get Home’ and stand out track ‘Oblivion’ make for a more emotive side to the quartet’s sound.

It’s not just a reflection of the wide array of upbeat tracks with cleverly written lyrics, or the work ethic and passion that has gone into the long awaited conclusion known as ‘Bad Blood’, but for one of the most rapid rates of success seen in a long while, Bastille’s place at the top of our pile was never questioned.
