Sunderland’s Altidore bid rejected

Sunderland’s bid for rejuvenated American striker, Jozy Altidore, has been rejected by his current club AZ Alkmaar and have been told that they’ll have to do much better to prize the 23-year- old away from Holland.

Sunderland boss, Paolo Di Canio is looking to bolster his strike-force ahead of the new season and Altidore has been lined up to be the latest in a long line of signings for the North-eastern club this summer but Sunderland are going to have to dig deep to get him.

Sunderland are not expected to give up at the first hurdle though as Di Canio has apparently identified Altidore as the man to rejuvenate the Sunderland frontline. Fans may remember the flashes of brilliance, mostly few and far between, we saw from Altidore as he made a loan switch to Hull in the 2009/10 Premier League season but the American looks to have become a different animal since then, notching 28 goals for Alkmaar last season in Holland. Certainly these are numbers to get Sunderland fans excited however we have seen players like this come from Holland before and not live up to expectations, remember Alfonso Alves at Middlesborough? As always though, stick with us here at Fortitude to see how this move develops over the coming days and if Sunderland do indeed get their man!
