Mannone to replace Mignolet as Sunderland complete five deals

Sunderland have acted quickly to secure a replacement for Simon Mignolet and secured a deal for Italian stopper, Vito Mannone.

Mannone played 23 games, amongst those games came some quite stunning performances, for Arsenal in eight seasons but was unable to hold down a regular spot in the team and has now been allowed to move on to join the Di Canio regime at Sunderland.

Signing a two-year-deal for an undisclosed fee, the 25-year-old strengthens the Black Cats’ presence between the sticks as prior to this signing the only goalkeeper on their books was Kieran Westwood.

Mannone becomes Sunderland’s fifth signing of the window as some shrewd business from Di Canio, including the capitalisation on the ability of some of this summer’s free agents, has seen players like Valentin Roberge, Modibo Diakite, Cabral and David Moberg Karlsson added to Di Canio’s ranks for the new season.

More deals are expected to be announced over the next few days as Di Canio looks to get his business done early; stick with us here to keep up to date with it all!
