Reema’s latest single ‘What The Whisper Said’ is a really inventive piece of folk music from start to finish. Its no surprise really since the singer-songwriter has collaborated with producer, composer and arranger Guy Sternberg for the release as part of his analogue label initiative, LowSwing Records.
Reema’s distinctive vocals are poignant throughout, having already been compared to that of Beth Orton and Lisa Hannigan understandably. But the real beauty within this track is the cocktail of instruments that slowly eek their way in like they have a mind of their own. The musicality tells a story all by itself, making it feel like it could be used in a musical or a recital. This, yet again, is a clear examples of Sternberg’s influence on the record. Combining Reema’s traditional story telling charm with Guy’s jazz influences to create something truly haunting and majestic.
