Single Review: Maria Kelly – ‘Hollow’

Mayo artist Maria Kelly has previously charmed our ears with her glorious debut EP The Things I Should. And now, having supported the likes of KT Tunstall and James Vincent McMorrow, she’s back with another beguiling offering.

Reflecting on the disappointment that comes with never quite getting through to someone, ‘Hollow’ oozes a delicate beauty and emotion-strewn splendour. Filled with flowing, twinkling melodies and Kelly’s luscious, impassioned vocals, it’s a gently stirring treat for the ears that’ll send shivers down the spine with its musically rich, melancholic majesty.

Of the track, Kelly explains:

“It came about when I had to be brutally honest with myself about the state of a relationship. It’s so easy to trick yourself into thinking that everything is fine, but this song represents that moment you snap, get angry and want to confront the problem.”

Showcasing Maria Kelly’s unique gift for songwriting, ‘Hollow’ is out now via Veta Records.
