Brighton based artist Collect Call has released the dreamy new single, ‘Pretense’, out now via Murmuration.
Having spent many years performing in bands, Joe Thorpe decided to take matters into his own hands by creating the solo project Collect Call. Reaching out to friends and musicians in the Brighton music scene, Joe has enlisted their help from time to time – whether it be live performances or guest appearances on his work.
The freedom to write and perform at his own pace has given Joe license to produce whimsical, hazy indie pop cuts in the mould of latter day Sufjan Stevens and the likes of Real Estate. ‘Pretense’ maintains Collect Calls lo-fi presentation as Joe writes a love letter to the digital age on a sweet, reflective track. Strummed guitar notes are accented by Joe’s sincere vocals and an effortless drum beat. The track comes to life through the catchy hooks and apt lyrical content as Joe implores society to step away from the echo chamber that is social media and engage with the the important things in life: the ones we love.
Since starting Collect Call, the band have played extensively within the Brighton music scene as well as supporting Bella Union’s Dog in the Snow in Dalston last year. Collect Call have previous single ‘Rain:Stop’, released earlier this year, gained support from from the likes of Mystic Sons, Fame Magazine and Sodwee.
