Bringing his show to a rapidly sold out Liverpool Academy 2, the beer was flowing and the atmosphere was building as support act Danny Mahon warmed the crowd nicely.
On came Liam Fray to the usual ‘Liam!’ chants and opened up with ‘St Jude’ classics ‘How Come’ and ‘Bide Your Time’, the crowd certainly found their voices early.
Liam mixed the setlist perfectly with tracks from all three studio albums as well as some old b-sides for the fans who have followed the band from day one.
New album ‘Anna’ was represented well with ‘Lose Control’, ‘Van Der Graaff’, ‘Marquee’ and ‘Here Come The Young Men’ all played and all going down well with the adoring crowd.
From new songs to old songs, b-sides ‘An Ex Is An Ex For A Reason’, ‘Car 31’ and a personal favourite ‘Smiths Disco’ were also played mixed in with massive tracks from the Courteeners first two studio albums.
Liam couldn’t thank his fans enough for buying ‘Anna’ and welcomed “proper music” back into the UK music charts.
Treating the adoring Liverpool crowd to ‘What Took You So Long?’ by playing it for the first time on this run of acoustic shows before finishing his set with the ultimate indie anthem ‘Not Nineteen Forever’, Liam was given huge applause after this excellent gig.
This gig wasn’t one for big light shows, after all it was a Liam Fray show; when he is fronting a show, the spotlight is certainly always on him anyway. After this run of acoustic shows, Liam himself must be as excited as his adoring fan base are for his bands full UK Tour which starts at the end of this month.
