Preoccupations Share New Track ‘Anxiety’

The band formerly known as Viet Cong return with new music.

Preoccupations have shared ‘Anxiety’, their first song under their new name. Riddled with choppy guitars, pranging synths and a droning bass line, ‘Anxiety’ is both agitated in name and in nature. Sounding on the edge of a panic attack, frontman Matt Flegel’s vocals are coarse and fidgety, backed by crackly drums and punky textures.

Following accusations of racism and cultural appropriation, the band to dropped the name Viet Cong in September 2015, saying “We are a band who wants to make music and play our music for our fans. We are not here to cause pain or remind people of atrocities of the past”.

While the band’s title may have shifted meaning, their sound is a truly trite as it has ever been.
