Merseyside men make Mignolet move, Luis Alberto deal to be done by Monday

Days after Pepe Reina committed his future to Liverpool Football Club, Brendan Rodgers looks to be close to securing his most high-profile signing of the summer so far in the form of Belgian goalkeeper, Simon Mignolet.

Since his arrival at the football club, Rodgers has consistently put emphasis on the need for competition for places to keep everyone on their toes however Reina was almost a constant in the side for the Reds last season. That now looks to change with the impending £11m arrival of Belgian international, Mignolet.

Liverpool and Sunderland are believed to have been in discussions for the past two weeks over the 25-year-old’s future and now the discussions appear to be nearing their end as the Black Cats stopper has been given permission to have a medical and discuss personal terms with Liverpool.

Mignolet was Sunderland’s best player last season by far as he almost single-handedly kept Paolo Di Canio’s side out of the relegation zone and seeing such an acclaimed stopper coming into the Liverpool squad has raised concerns that Pepe Reina may reconsider his future at Anfield with the Spaniard tipped one of Barcelona’s preferred replacements for Victor Valdes.

One Spaniard on his way into Anfield finally looks to be Luis Alberto. The Sevilla forward had looked to be on his way to Anfield a number of weeks ago but the move came to a standstill as concerns were raised over the fee by Sevilla and because of a rumoured clause that Barcelona had with Sevilla over the player’s loan to their B-side in the previous campaign.

Those concerns have now been dispelled however and the 20-year-old winger, like Mignolet, looks set to put the finishing touches on his move to Anfield in the coming days for a fee in the region of £7m.
