Interview: Fun Lovin’ Criminals – “All in all festivals are one big party!”

Set to play Mitchelstown’s Indiependence festival this year, Fun Lovin’ Criminals are one of the most anticipated acts in the line-up…

We caught up with the band in advance of the festival.

Hey guys, how are you?

All good!

You’re set to play Indiependence festival this Summer – looking forward to that? Have you guys played in Ireland much before?

Yeah, we have played many gigs ina ireland over the past 20 years.

The varied mix of genres in your sound sort of carries a festival vibe. How do you guys find the response at festivals?

Festivals are a great opportunity for bands to play to their fans as well as people that may never have heard your music. All in all festivals are one big party!

Can you give us a little insight into the Fun Lovin’ Criminals song writing process or routine!?

One of us will come up with an idea and play it for the others. Other times we write in the traditional way where we all sit down and ‘jam’.

You released your first live album ‘Fun, Live and Criminal’ in 2011. What was the reaction like to that? Is a live album something you’d like to do again?

We always wanted to release a live album and concert film. ‘Fun, Live, and Criminal’ is a triple live album (over 60 live songs). We also released ‘The Bong Remains The Same’ in January. ‘TBRTS’ is a live concert film we are very proud of.

So, you haven’t had a release since then but here you are set to play Indiependence, and I’m sure a lot of other festivals and live shows. What’s the plan? Just gigging around or is there a release under wraps somewhere?!

Summertime is festival season so we always like to perform. We are starting to setup a special tour/album re-release for the 20th anniversary of ‘Come Find Yourself’ at the end of next year.

Thanks a million for taking the time to talk to us guys! See you at Indie!

Thank you.

Fun Lovin’ Criminals will play Indiependence between August 1st and 3rd this year. More info: http://indiependencefestival.com
