Interview: Elliot Minor – “The stuff we achieved wasn’t just down to us, it was down to the commitment & love from the fans”

After years of making music as a band, Elliot Minor made the decision to split. However, fans do get to say their goodbyes to the music and musicians they’ve followed for quite some time as Elliot Minor head out on three final reunion dates in London.

We caught up with drummer, Dan Hetherton before saying a final farewell to the boys and their sound as this five-piece.

Hi Dan, how are you?

Hello! Wicked thanks, really pumped for the shows this weekend!

It’s pretty strange to be interviewing you knowing this is pretty much it – last shows coming up, and the end of Elliot Minor essentially. How does it feel for you guys?

Pretty strange for us too! This really was a spontaneous decision to do a few one off shows. Once we started chatting about getting together it all started coming back to us, like a snowball effect! The more we’ve rehearsed the more we’ve really got back into it, it’s really strange to be back in the same room together rehearsing but we can’t wait!

I know yourself and Alex went onto other music ventures with separate bands and what not, so how and when did the decision to come back and do some final Eliot Minor shows come about?

Well we’ve stayed pretty close over the years, checking out each other’s band’s shows and meeting up in the studio! It really was a spontaneous idea and I am actually heavily involved in the gigging scene in London so it was all pretty straight forward for me to set up and promote. To be honest we’ve been talking about it for about six months now! But only made the announcement three months ago.

It must be overwhelming to see so many people still wanting to come to the gigs and support you after so long?

Absolutely amazing! We never expected that kind of a reaction, we always wanted to make the shows intimate but we never expected to be playing three of them! We still can’t believe how quick the first 2 sold out… and there’s only a few tickets left for the third at Islington!

There are actually even fans flying from the States, Canada and Japan to see us which is unreal, we’d love to go over there and play a show for them to repay the favour!

So, what’s next for you guys as individuals once this is all over?

Well, that’s the thing… we’re all so heavily involved in our respective careers, myself and Alex have stuck within the music industry but the other three guys are in some crazy positions – Oil, Law and Accountancy… ROCK N ROLL!

What’s been the highlight of the whole Elliot Minor journey? Any moment you’re particularly proud of?

Woah, I couldn’t pick, really. Our tours abroad were absolutely insane, but then us being abroad added to it! Nothing beats our UK fan base though, some highlights were The Astoria, Download Festival, and The Forum. It’s hard to pick a favourite city though, every place was different in its own special way. A lot of the stuff we did and achieved wasn’t just down to us, it was down to the commitment and love from the fans, as they pushed us along the way!

Lastly, is there anything you’d like to say to fans or readers who may have been supporting you since the beginning?

Just a big big big thank you for following and supporting us! We do know that London isn’t perfect for everyone but we’ve had some amazing experiences there over our time as a band, and figured it would be a great place for a reunion show, or shows.

Well, thanks a million for taking the time to chat to Fortitude, Dan. We wish you all the success in the upcoming shows and of course in whatever you each go on to do!

That’s no problem, thanks very much for the chat! And a big thanks for the support.
