Chelsea agree £8m fee for Dutch Prospect

Dutch Under-21 International, Marco Van Ginkel, is set for a move to England after Chelsea agreed a fee with his current club Vitesse Arnhem for the services of the midfielder.

Interest in the 20-year-old has grown on a lot of fronts over the last few months as Chelsea, Manchester United, Real Madrid and a host of other high profile clubs have been linked with the Dutch star.

The fee, although yet to be made public, is believed to be in the region of £8m as the Premier League side released a statement within the last hour saying all that remains to be agreed is the usual formalities of a medical, personal terms and certain legal documentation.

Van Ginkel has been a catalyst for Arnhem’s success since he broke into the first team and almost dragged them to the Eredivisie title before a late collapse meant they slipped to a fourth-placed finish, which is still the best finish the club have managed in their domestic league in fifteen years.

Van Ginkel played 41 times last season and scored 12 goals as well as notching 12 assists. He is 6’1” and very dynamic in midfield, a box-to-box man, very similar to the Frank Lampard of a few years ago; perhaps this will be the man who replaces Lampard when he does eventually hang up his boots.
