Liela Moss is renowned for fronting notable UK band The Duke Spirit as well as collaborating with artists such as Unkle. Her solo work is equally as impressive, with the artist having released three studio albums including last years ominous ‘Internal Working Model’. Now Liela has returned with her latest single, the brooding ‘Reward’.
Described as a swaggering snake of a track, ‘Reward’ finds Liela advancing into a more daring direction. Produced by production duo and remixers IYEARA (Mark Lanegan, Humanist), ‘Reward’ pulses with woozy synths, distorted beats, and Moss’s commanding vocal. Like much of her previous work, Liela uses her music to share her outlook on life through emotive lyricism.
As Liela explains, “This is me staring directly into feelings of insufficiency and asking, ‘what is this tension, this holding on?’. I want a life where wellbeing is not dependant on outcome, and I want to feel like I ride in a clear space. If all I want is ‘arrival’, then the journey is not so cool, is it?. Can I, can we collectively, work hard to override the spell of the ego and instead be satisfied in the present moment? I’m looking for that place where ego subsides and that constant yearning is simply not there. What if we could collectively, globally calm that ‘wanting’ down!? Dissolve the grip of the ego; contribute to existence rather than mine resources to temporarily ‘fix’ a desire… I’m writing about the vanity we all get caught up in.”
‘Reward’ is the first of a collection of singles due for release this year, culminating in a short UK tour in October. You can catch Liela live on the following dates:
Oct 15th – Bristol Cube Cinema
Oct 16th – London Hoxton Hall
Oct 18th – Brighton Alphabet
Oct 19th – Manchester Band on the Wall
‘Reward’ is out now via Mother Figure Records.
