Having just released her debut EP, Are We There Yet?, Pip Blom writes, records and releases all her own material. Based in Amsterdam, she creates uptempo indie-pop filled with scuzzy riffs alongside infectious melodies.
Filled with three tracks – each distinctive from the others – Are We There Yet? shows Blom’s talent for writing raw indie anthems.
Oozing sunny melodies and twinkly riffs, first track ‘Taxi Driver’ will leave you reaching for repeat, hungry for more of its upbeat lyrical storytelling. Reminiscent of everyone’s favourite Aussie, Courtney Barnett, it’s a wonderfully catchy opening to the EP.
A no-frills love song, the hazy hypnotic tones of ‘Honey’ will lure you into Blom’s languid, lo-fi fuzz and raw, understated power. Whilst, closing the EP, is the stripped back, acoustic fragility of ‘Alone’; as each guitar chord is gently strummed, Blom’s smooth, sweet vocals and reflective, emotive lyricism flow with a delicate grace.
Are We There Yet? may be short, but it’s a perfect introduction to this young singer-songwriter – showcasing just what she is capable of, whilst leaving you eager to hear what she has in store for us next.
Having already received praise from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens, Pip Blom is finishing up her mini UK tour tonight (30 September) at Take 5 in Norwich, and I’m sure she’ll be returning to our shores very soon.
Are We There Yet? is out now via Toaster Records.
