Young labelled “pathetic” by Wilkins

Former Manchester United midfielder Ray Wilkins has blasted Ashley Young for his latest dive away at Real Sociedad in the Champions League.

Young appeared to throw himself down after little contact from Markel Bergara to win a penalty for United which was eventually missed by Robin Van Persie.

Red Devils boss David Moyes defended his winger but Wilkins publicly criticised the 28-year-old while doing punditry for Sky Sports.

“This is pathetic,” Wilkins said in the studio. “I just wish Ashley would cut this out because he’s a good player but he’s getting a bad name.”

Wilkins, who won the F.A. Cup with United in 1983 added, “This is as bad for me as all these over-the-top tackles we’re getting at the moment because it’s a conning of the referee.”

The game finished 0-0 at San Sebastian and United are now one point ahead of Bayer Leverkusen at the top of Group A on matchday 4.
