It is hard to deny how much of a good year 2015 was for video games. With new instalments to well received franchises, such as Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and Fallout 4, as well as new unique games such as Dying Light and Life is Strange, it has truly been a successful time for the industry. However, there have also been some even better titles lined up. So, since the new year is well underway, here is a top five list of most anticipated games for 2016
Horizon Zero Dawn
Announced last year at Sony Computer Entertainment’s E3 conference, this game follows a young woman in a post apocalyptic world, where the last remaining surviving members of mankind survive as tribes. Humanity is no longer on top of the food chain, replaced instead by giant dinosaur-like robots. Developed by Guerrilla Games – the same people who were responsible for Killzone – this is the studios first attempt at an RPG style game and is meant to have a worldwide release this year for Playstation 4.
Dishonored 2
Following the events of the first game, this title follows either Corvin Attano – the protagonist of the first game – or Emily Kaldwin – another important character from the series. Very much like its predecessor, though it is advertised as a stealth game, you can choose to act stealthily or go in guns blazing. How you play the game will affect the ending. The developers have confirmed that the sequel will be a much more challenging experience for gamers. The game is expected to be released worldwide for Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
Doom
When Bethesda Softworks did their panel at E3, as well as Dishonored 2 and Fallout 4, they also announced a return from the grandfather of violent video games. Doom – the fourth instalment to the franchise and a well needed reboot – is a game where we can expect “badass demons, big effing guns, and moving really fast” as its key principles. The game is supposed to be released on Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
Far Cry Primal
And now for something completely different. A change from the warlords and drug dealers of the previous titles, this instalment goes all the way back to the Stone age, where players act as a part of a hunter-gatherer group. Still featuring the same first person violent action we got used to in past games, the game is meant to be released for next generation platforms.
The Last Guardian
Fumito Ueda is a remarkable game designer, releasing well known titles such Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and it seems he is poised to give another game to remember. Though it is unknown whether it will be linked to the other games, this new release follows the adventure of a young boy and a giant mythical beast. Being in development since 2007, the game will be for the Playstation four console.
