Sinkane Unveils Mini-Documentary And Afghan Whigs & Usher Performance

Following the release of his debut album ‘Mars’ at the tail end of last year through City Slang, Sinkane returns to UK shores next week for a headline show, Rough Trade East performance and a DJ set.

To whet your appetite, Ahmed Gallab tells you what to expect in this mini-documentary:

The shows come in the wake of a fantastic trip to SXSW this year, when Ahmed was invited by the mighty Afghan Whigs to join them and Usher on stage to perform SINKANE single ’Runnin’.

Here’s a clip from the show:

‘MARS’ is and album dense with deep, polyrhythmic grooves that refer as much to early 70’s underground soul as back to Sudan, Gallab’s home country. On another level, it’s a 21st century party record that acknowledges the international musical village in which we all now live.

Gallab is known in musician circles for having been the touring multi-instrumentalist for Of Montreal, Caribou, Born Ruffians and Eleanor Friedberger, but he didn’t start there. Gallab’s family left Sudan when he was a boy, immigrated to the US and moved all over the country. He went to high school in Kent, Ohio. There, he found his first musical community in the town’s unsung but thriving post-hardcore scene
