Single Review: Wild Spelks – Hail Mary

Hail Mary is the latest single from the North East based artist Wild Spelks. Off the back of successful single releases in 2021, the band have been dragged into 2022 kicking and screaming as they once again showcase their dynamic sound.

Following on from debut single ‘The Happy Places’, Wild Spelks upped their game with last years ‘Dreamer’ and ‘Nine By Sixteen’. The band gained a plethora of compliments from industry movers and shakers ranging from Clash Magazine describing them as as “Reminiscent of Guided By Voices…” and Louder Sound stating “…melodic alt-rock that comes on like Weezer playing Teenage Fanclub.”.

Hail Mary simply reinforces these lofty reviews. Another alt.rock banger, Wild Spelks tread into classic Jimmy Eat World territory, expertly melding alt.rock, mainstream rock and emo into a package that packs a hell of a punch. Undulating throughout, the chorus kicks in and could easily sit neatly as a bonus track on Bleed America, Jonathon Sabiston;s charismatic vocal belting out the cathartic lyrics. A satisfying listen fit for any road trip playlist.

Hail Mary will be the final single release of the year for Wild Spelks with Sabiston heading back into the studio to complete his debut EP, due for release later in 2022.

Hail Mary is out now via Montgomery Records.
