Single Review: Two Penny Blue – ‘Lament’

Making an effort to gig as regularly as possible in and around the capital, London folk trio Two Penny Blue follow up their last single ‘Gypsy’ with another catchy and colourful offering.

Inspired by the Athiest perspective of life and death, ‘Lament’ is a joyous slice of folk pop flowing with twinkling melodies and the distinctive, rich vocals of frontman Tommy Gathers. Despite its somewhat morbid subject matter, the track is filled with a playful lyricism as luscious harmonies soar with emotion. Of the track, Gathers explains:

“It’s preaching to sit back, drink champagne and just be happy you were alive.”

Filled with a depth of musicality, ‘Lament’ is an impassioned creation – a sparkling ditty that builds into a truly infectious, sweeping anthem that’s sure to leave you longing for more from this young trio.

‘Lament’, the new single from Two Penny Blue, is out now.
