York’s Mary And The Ram have peered from behind the curtain and exhibited their dark, synthwave soundscapes to the world as they celebrate the release of caustic debut single ‘Eclipse’.
Helmed by The Trembling Hellish Infernal Nightmare Generator’s Kiran Tanna and The Parasitic Twins’ Dom Smith, Mary And The Ram create a bleak, claustrophobic sound that sits somewhere between the darkwave movement prevalent in the 80’s and the hostile sounds of industrial pioneers such as NIN and Skinny Puppy. Bristling with menace from the opening notes, ‘Eclipse’ builds momentum throughout, creating an ominous feeling in the process, accented by the layered vocals and an incessant, pulverising beat. ‘Eclipse’ is an impressive opening gambit from a band who must be watched closely in 2020.
It’s no wonder Mary And The Ram create such grandiose noise having enlisted the help of Kallie Marie (Explosives For Her Majesty), Dave ‘Rave’ Ogilvie (The Weeknd, NIN, Skinny Puppy), who took on mixing duties, and Howie Weinberg (Thirty Seconds To Mars, Mars Volta, Nirvana) who took responsibility for the impressive mastering.
