Single Review: Ed Black- Find Time

Hailing from Chester, singer/songwriter and former Ninetails frontman, Ed Black has used his experience from Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts to get his point across through well-structured melodies and beautifully written lyrics.

Following the release of his début solo EP, ‘Same Old Story’ in January this year, Ed has recently released his new single, ‘Find Time’, accompanied by B-side, ‘Huts’ and an upbeat, fun-filled remix of the lead track.

Find Time’ starts on a slow, faded platform and builds up to a captivating blend of sounds throughout the four minute duration. The chorus is that of a catchy guitar pattern laying low behind the gently spoken “we’ll find time, we’ll find time”. The fullness embedded in the track may just be the proof of Ed’s previous band experience; it’s great to see he’s not reigning any risk factors in.

B-side, ‘Huts’, although not as strong in melody, definitely takes the gold star for lyrical shine; and as for the prominent acoustic guitar riff- it’s something else. An Ed Black spin on a Newton Faulkner influence is what comes to mind. ‘Find Time’ may be the lead track, but ‘Huts’ would never be perceived as a B-side out of sequence.

Final track comes in a fun form of a Wilroy remix of ‘Find Time’– need we say more? The original, cemented track, shadowed and garnished with further sound effects, backing vocals, synth, and just an overall spell of happiness.
