Single Review: DD Darillo – ‘Time Will Tell’

Boy Azooga’s Dylan Morgan has peered out from behind the curtain of the renowned indie rock band and released debut single, Time Will Tell, under the guise of DD Darillo.

A song about not feeling at home anywhere, Time Will Tell is a biographical tale of Dylan growing up in the outback of the Welsh Hills. Incorporating the Welsh notion of ‘Hiraeth’, or ‘the feeling of longing for a home that never was’, Dylan explores themes of belonging, before coming to the realisation that it is time itself that will determine where and with whom we belong.

A blistering upbeat opening, Time Will Tell comes speeding out of the blocks with a a hip shaking rhythm section leading the way. The track is amplified further by Dylan’s distorted vocals, beautifully accentuated by layered harmonies, followed by an exhilarating build up as the track descends into a fuzzy, guitar driven outro.

Taking cues from the likes of contemporary acts such as King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Pond and melding them with classic rock acts like Squeeze and Steely Dan, Time Will Tell is a raucous debut single from a band who will definitely be ones to keep an eye out for in 2021.

DD Darillo also consist of Oliver Beard (Bass, Backing Vocals) John Close (Guitar) and Alex Burch (Drums). The track was recorded at Tom Rees’ (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard) studio, with the video shot by Craig Shankland (Estrons/Death Cult Electric) and edited by Dylan. The band will follow up this debut single with another track due in January 2021.

Time Will Tell is out now via Hush Now Records and available to stream on Spotify.
