Indie four-piece Castells have unveiled their latest single Peach. Taken from the EP Viola, yet again demonstrating a band who straddle the fine line between mainstream indie and pop music.
Castells are a band who have been building a reputation over the past couple of years. Like the rest of the industry, Castells ascension was abruptly brought to a halt due to the unprecedented affects of the pandemic. Making a name for themselves on the London circuit, having played with artists such as Spinn and Only Sun, the four-piece were steadily cementing their reputation as an exciting live act.
The last few months have seen the band remerge with the release of singles Calling Me Out and Viola as well as our 7/10 rated Falling For You. Peach is the culmination of these releases, repackaged as the Viola EP, and sees Castells tread familiar territory. Upbeat choruses, bittersweet lyrics and memorable hooks play out in what is an impressive, albeit very mainstream, track. The band have a penchant for impressive songwriting for ones so young, and there is certainly a drive and determination oozing out from every heartfelt note.
While, the press release states that Castells are for fans of Vistas, Marsicans and their ilk, it seems the band are straying into a shiny pop veneer that, on the surface, is more The Vamps than Blossoms. Regardless, Peach continues to showcase a band that has the skills and maturity to continue to develop their sound enabling them to compete with, and surpass, their peers.
Consisting of Connor Crooks (vocals, guitar), Robert Castelino (guitar), Matt Chittenden (bass) and Marc Smith (drums), Castells have announced their first headline show at The Grace, Islington on 3rd September 2021.
