Canadian Hip-Hop/Jazz trio, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Hip-Hop heavyweight GHOSTFACE KILLAH, deliver “Ray Gun” – the “DOOM” assisted third single from their upcoming joint LP “Sour Soul”.
BADBADNOTGOOD are slowly rising from the mist in the Hip-Hop/Jazz scene. Having already collaborated with the likes of rappers such as Tyler, The Creator, Wu-Tang mastermind The RZA, Earl Sweatshirt and have also done Jazz based covers of many other Hip-Hop artists (see their energetic rendition of Flashing Lights by Kanye West). So with welcome arms I welcome their next hip-hop based effort, “Ray Gun”.In succession with the last two singles from BADBADNOTGOOD’s new album “Sour Soul”, which features Wu-Tang storyteller Ghostface Killah on every track, the track boasts BBNG’s abilities to weave in between grooves and melodies alike, and allow Ghostface and DOOM to go lyrically round for round off of each other, rapidly with no sign of slacking.
With lines like “Me and DOOM heading down to the range to shoot in the matrix. Catch bullets with my hands and teeth, I break faces”, Ghostface proves that he is still at the top of his game and shows no sign of slowing down. The track itself gives off an excellently well done old-school/sampled-jazz kind of feel, sounding like something a young James Brown would sound comfortable on. DOOM bursts into the track with “As if, stance mad stiff, Metal Face DOOM, beware, he bear gifts”, giving us an updated taste of the old, playfully cryptic DOOM lyrics that most of his fans know him for.
