Electro-rock duo 88/89 have had a productive year despite many aspects of the music industry grinding to a halt. With two singles already under their belt – funky number ‘The Man’ and the driven indie dance-floor-filler ‘Valentine’ – the band have returned with latest cut, Bite The Bullet.
Helmed by multi-instrumentalists Michael Hornby (vocals) and Jack James (guitar), 88/89 seamlessly straddle an abundance of genres ranging from electro, synth-pop, dance and rock. Bite The Bullet is no different as the pair run the listener through a gamut of upbeat soundscapes that compel you to shift your feet and shake your hips.
Kicking off with a head-bopping beat, Bite The Bullet takes off as singer Michael Hornby’s effected vocals flutter. Powerful guitar cuts through the dreaminess of the harmonised vocals as everything is brought together by the perpetual beat. Bite The Bullet is yet another notable track from a duo who have a keen eye, and ear, for memorable hooks and choruses.
Formed in 2019 after a chance meeting, the formation of 88/89 was an opportunity for Michael and Jack to reconnect with the music industry after a number of years in hiatus. Developing and writing plethora of demos, the duo concluded that it would be more productive to move in together, build a small studio and work around the clock. Fast forward two years and the results have been significant. 88/89 have gained support from the likes of Music Week Tastemaker, Beats Per Minute, Notion Magazine, It’s All Indie and Mystic Sons. 88/89 have also picked up an impressive list of playlist coverage including Spotify‘s New Music Friday and Fresh Finds, Apple’s New Music Daily, Shazam‘s Best New Music and many more.
