We are pretty excited to premiere Fortitude’s slacker rock favs, The Shakers first single “Brixton Kiss” from their new latest EP, Banana Tsunami!
Since releasing their debut record, The Shakers have been busy selling out venues across London, appearing on radio shows, being named “Best of British Unsigned Band” and playing a handful of festivals, including the mighty Glastonbury. Brixton Kiss finds The Shakers putting a marker in the sand and proclaiming who they are now. The driving saxophone line is helping the bass guitar seek out and attempt to capture the rock n’ roll sound of the 60’s.
Over the summer, the band recorded their second EP at Red Bull Studios in London with producer Louis Fulford-Smith (BAMILY). The new record is a big step up for The Shakers, mixing classic funk guitar with rock and roll riffs to create the heavy grooves the band labels as slacker rock.
The band talked with us about the new track: “Brixton Kiss is a song that we have been playing for a while now and one that was initially written in the queue at the Bussey Building a few years back. We were trying to figure out how the bass line and lyrics would fit together, which caught the attention of a couple in front of us. We had only just started writing material and playing together so to prove to them we actually were in a band we attempted to make up the whole song on the spot. From then it evolved into a song about where we all were in our lives, fighting the pressures of being expected to know what you want to do with your life, when the only way you really know to express yourselves at that time was to go out on the weekend and get loaded.”
