Ru Launches New Single From Upcoming EP – ‘About Time (Let It Go)’

Giving us just a small taste of her upcoming EP, London’s own Ru has proudly released her latest single, ‘About Time (Let It Go)’.

A fresh face on the UK pop scene, Ru fuses funk, jazz and pop to evoke inspiration and spread powerful messages in her music. While this isn’t her first single, ‘About Time (Let It Go)’ is the first of Ru’s work we’ve covered, and it’s a lovely peek into a window of what’s to come.

This particular song is written to encourage listeners to leave the past behind them and welcome a new start, while also showcasing the aforementioned mixed styles at play. ‘About Time (Let It Go)’ is certainly a groovy track driven by a simple, but pleasing, acoustic guitar lick and backed by a beat similar to those you’d hear in Latin-Pop tunes. Meanwhile, Ru’s vocals effortlessly weave through the instruments without completely distracting the listener from everything else that’s happening here. If I were to compare it to a similar musician’s work, this track closely resembles Josephine Oniyama’s Portrait album in terms of wonderfully blurring the lines of simplicity and subtlety.

Impressively, but perhaps not surprisingly, Ru has been writing music and collaborating with renowned artists for nearly a decade now. In fact, throughout her journey she’s even penned songs for Portuguese Idol and X-Factor.

It’s easy to recommend ‘About Time’ to anyone reading this. It’s not a demanding song by any means and it may not inspire you to change the world quite yet, but it’s an easy, uplifting listen and right now that’s what we need. The mainstream radio waves could use an injection of Ru’s brand of funky-pop, and we’re here for it.
