Review: The Original Rudeboys- Leopardstown Racecourse, Dublin- 04/07/13

Another sunny evening at Leopardstown Racecourse and the atmosphere was building in anticipation for rising Irish blend of Indie and Hip-Hop, The Original Rudeboys.

Kickstarting the night with relatively new song ‘Blue Eyes’, The Original Rudeboys had this crowd screaming from the opening second. Pouring great energy into their bouncing stage presence, this band really are a delight to watch on the live stage. As they moved through a set of very well-received originals, amongst the mix were a few covers to encourage a lively sing along. Executing a more Indie-vibed ‘Little Lion Man’ by Mumford & Sons, the entire campus of Leopardstown was captivated.

Rob’s smooth, almost whispering vocals shined on a powerful platform of Walshy’s cheeky stage presence and Neddy’s animated energy. As they rolled into ‘Dublin Days’, the boys were clearly delighted to be playing back at home. Interacting with the crowd is something The Original Rudeboys seem to excel at- jumping into the pit to greet the fans with high 5’s, and of course accepting gifts in the style of giant Hot Press Magazine covers, if they’re offered!

Stand out songs of the night for me came in the sense of ‘Dublin Days’, ‘Travelling Man’ and ‘Bringing Me Down’, all portraying the true energetic side of The Original Rudeboys. From ukulele solos, to gentle guitar chords, to full force rapping, they had it all, and they couldn’t have got a warmer sense of appreciation from these adoring fans.

Although the challenge of a power-cut was thrown at them just before the encore, The Original Rudeboys came storming back, only to finish with a massive bang. The entire courtyard of Leopardstown was littered with enthusiasm and energy, all sparking from the sheer electricity of this Hip-Hop tinged Indie spell. After seeing how The Original Rudeboys fair out in the buzz of Leopardtown; festival stages, wherever the Rudeboys may find themselves, will be ripped to shreds with their spiralling, raptured spirit, and I strongly recommend you get down and witness it.
