Review: Rodrigo y Gabriela – The Forum, London – 29/11/2012

Rodrigo y Gabriela is the stage name for the Mexican duo, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero; whom infamously specialise in performing fast, rhythmical, melodies, via acoustic guitars, that fuse numerous genres and influences.

With an excess of 1.2 million album sales, it came as no surprise to witness London’s Forum packed to the rafters with harmonious fans stamping their feet or dancing along to the complexity of the music.

A duet renowned for their street performances in Dublin, Ireland, and developing a strong cult; it come as no surprise when witnessing their live performance what encouraged these loyal supporters. Their performance is a spectacle.

Although there are no vocals on their tracks, this will actually please you as each strum, pluck or percussion slap seduces you into further admiration for the duo. Whilst the overall production left nothing else to be desired, as the light show was capable of altering the ambience of the venue immediately; from their mellow tones to their active riffs that got you in the mood for a salsa.

The in-show video footage left you to your own devices to understand what Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero are so professional at; performing.

If you are in the quest for something new, interesting and exhilarating; then look no further than Rodrigo y Gabriela, as they easily become the best live performance of the year.
