Review: Lauren Aquilina- Sinners EP

Having shot into the top 10 in the iTunes chart last year with her debut EP ‘Fools’, British singer/songwriter Lauren Aquilina is excelling upwards with her new EP ‘Sinners’.

With a solid, developed sound reigning through this EP, a whole new level of success is looking eminent. Holding the same gentle sound with Lauren’s vocals very much filling the core, more depth seems to follow through the four tracks.

The EP begins with title track ‘Sinners‘- one of the two stand-out tracks for me, showcasing the high lyrical quality Lauren succeeds in producing even at the worst of times. The EP continues with ‘Talk To Me‘ and ‘Ugly Truth‘- the latter of the two portraying a more mainstream, radio-pleasing sound from Lauren, with a general upbeat almost “pop” tone.

The No.1 stand-out track on this record for me is definitely final track ‘Irrelevant‘. The beautifully emotive lyrics are fitted on the recognisable piano backing that tends to come with Lauren’s sound.

This EP ultimately takes a higher ground than Lauren’s debut, even with that being a difficult record to follow. Relatable, poetic lyrics coinciding with excellent melodies- it really has Lauren Aquilina written all over it.

‘Sinners’ is set to be released on July 22nd. Order it right HERE.
