Review: Jake Bugg – O2 Academy, Liverpool – 12/02/2013

Singer-songwriter Jake Bugg embarked on his biggest UK Tour to date and stopped at Liverpool to give his ever growing fan base a taste of what he is all about.

With his sound bringing back the old country genre, his self titled debut album has sore him rise to fame in very quick fashion.

Opening his set with ‘Fire’ before playing ‘Taste It’ EP b-sides ‘Kentucky’ and ‘Love Me The Way You Do’, the relaxed atmosphere was in full swing. Jake cranked it up with hits ‘Trouble Town’ and seemingly all his fans favourite song ‘Seen It All’, the Liverpool crowd found their dancing shoes along with their voices.

Jake played a new song, ‘Slumville Sunrise’ which seemed to be a hit with the crowd before going back to his album.

Jake gave the Liverpool crowd chance to dance again by ending the main part of his set with hit singles ‘Two Fingers’, ‘Taste It’ and ‘Lightning Bolt’, before coming back on stage to play a two song encore of ‘Broken’ and a Johnny Cash cover of ‘Folsom Prison Blues’ which was the song of the night for me.

After seeing Jake Bugg live in late 2012 I was left a little disappointed that nothing much had changed including the setlist. New songs are needed but Jake’s rise to the top certainly isn’t slowing down yet.
