Review: Embrace – Self Titled

Brit-pop favourites Embrace made their comeback earlier this year with their comeback single ‘Refugees’ and announced they would be releasing their first album in 8 years, and its been worth the wait.

With lead single ‘Refugees’ followed up by latest single ‘Follow You Home’ setting the perfect set up for the release of one of the most anticipated albums of the year, Danny Mcnamara and his band certainly haven’t dissapointed and held their promise that they wouldn’t release an album again until it was better than their debut way back in 1998.

This album see’s Embrace at their lyrical best, touching soulful lyrics packed with often hard hitting guitar riffs and the feel good anthemic feel that the best Embrace music always gives.

The 10 track LP see’s a mix of tracks, with opening tracks ‘Protection’ and ‘In The End’ giving the album a massive snyth opening before the album moves into Embrace’s brit-pop comfort zone before a powerful, rock album feeling end to the album with the riff-heavy tracks ‘Self Attack Mechanism’ and ‘A Thief On My Island’ with the feel good factor carrying right through the album; which makes it the great album it is.

Embrace have fulfilled their promise of an album greater than their debut, ‘The Good Will Out’ and it gives you a feeling this band have fallen back in love with music; this self-titled album is most definitely a front runner as one of the best albums of 2014 so far.
