Single Review: Cruiser – Kidnap Me

Philadelphia, The state that is renowned for it’s vibrant, vivid and vital pop scene.Philly’s most  far-reaching acts submerged themselves with influences from the rhythm and blues scene that boomed in the 60’s along with the cool jazz and soft soul we heard from artist such as The Delfonics and The Stylistics.

Since the days of Soul, Philly has thrown to us some of the finest contemporary pop musicians to grace our stereos with, no childhood was complete with the sound of Hall&Oats Screaming ‘You Make My Dreams Come True’ through 200 watt speakers or the hip hop scratching of ‘The Root’s blasting ‘Guns Are Drawn’ through every teenagers BoomBox.

Cruiser are just the latest soul-infused feel-good pop boys from Philly. Andy States, Johnathan Van Dine, Josa Lazas and Kyle Cook are the quartet that make up this gleeful group. The boys enriched the music scene back in 2012 with bubble-gum sunshine rhythms and rhymes, staying true to their happy-go- lucky sound ‘Cruiser’ has released their new upbeat single,‘Kidnap Me’. ‘Kidnap me’ oozes 3 and a half minuets of free-minded, untroubled, devil-may-care indie-pop, unapologetic of it’s easy-going and feckless contents the track parades undisturbed bass lines, steady yet powerful drum beats and a nonchalant guitar riffs, not to mention the sensual yet soft vocals flourishing hearty melody’s and tales with a optimistic tenor tone. Although speculation has been made that the track was released just a couple of months too late, missing the summer sun which the harmony is oh-so perfect for, the track still manages to power it’s way through the autumn winds and lift adolescent spirits out of those post-summer blues.
