Review: Alek Fin – Waiting Like A Wolf

Alek Fin is a producer-singer-songwriter from Thousand Oaks, CA. Waiting Like A Wolf is the single from his Mull EP, the remainder of which can be found on Soundcloud.

It is worth noting that this track is one man’s work, rather than that of a cast of thousands.

Waiting… comes over very latter-day Radiohead, especially with the cadence of the woodblock drum patterns, though the drifting, plaintive vocals carry more than their fair share of Yorkery. The track has a pleasing, absent quality to it, as though the song is going on behind you. Fans of Massive Attack will find this a bit too edgy and unsettling, though listeners to Grizzly Bear and more electronically inclined of Django Django’s fanbase would benefit from giving it a thorough listen.

Placed in the context of his other works, Waiting Like A Wolf is more reserved, showcasing a more evidently tender side to Fin’s work. A good walking record for when you’re feeling out of sorts, this will ease your misery gradually until you forget what made you so mad in the first place. It must also be said that the rising/falling waves aspect of the track is something at which Fin excels, evidenced clearly by tracks such as Rock Paper Scissors, and that for all the dynamism involved he effortlessly retains his unique atmosphere and energy.

A proper 4. Check out the link for more information.
