It may be winter but psych-jazz quartet Melotone are bringing back the Latin heat with the release of their sophomore single ‘Entre Ondas’, out now.
‘Entre Ondas’ is a wonderfully hypnotic track that evokes bossa nova and tropicalia influences, diving deeper into the sounds of Brazil – a place of inspiration for the band and native country of singer Alec Madeley. Sung entirely in Portuguese, ‘Entre Ondas’ evokes a spiritual sound, which ripples through the spacious verses and percussive choruses effortlessly.
Talking about the single, Alec explains, “Entre Ondas is a landmark song for me because it is the first of ours that truly captures our love of sixties and seventies Brazilian music. During the pandemic, I was listening to a lot of Caetano Veloso, Os Novos Baianos, and Gal Costa, which I think inspired me to write something in Portuguese, almost as a homage to the greats I had been obsessing over.”
