Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins Faces Child Sex Offence Charges

The lead singer of Lostprophets, and co-founder of dance duo L’Amour La Morgue, Ian Watkins faces charges for child sex offences.

Ian Watkins, 35, of Pontypridd, is due to appear in front of the Cardiff magistrates on Wednesday.

He is charged with conspiracy to engage in sexual activity with a female under 13 and possession/distribution of indecent images of children.

Two women, aged 20 and 24, from Doncaster and Bedford, have been charged with similar offences.

All three have been questioned at Cardiff Bay police station, said South Wales Police.

Senior investigating officer Det Insp Peter Doyle said: “Specially-trained staff are available to speak to anyone with concerns or information regarding this investigation and a dedicated telephone number has been set up.

“I want to encourage anyone who has any concerns or information which they think may be relevant to contact us.

“Safeguarding children involved in such cases is always a high priority and as such measures have already been taken.”

Ian Watkins founded the Pontypridd rock band Lostprophets back in 1997, then in 2009 begun a remix project called L’Amour La Morgue whilst Lostprophets were writing for their album, ‘The Betrayed’.

With 7 Top 20 hits, over 3.5m albums sold worldwide and UK number 1 album with ‘Liberation Transmission’, these recent events, guilty or not, will surely put a cloud of Ian Watkins’ career. Their most recent album ‘Weapons’, also was their fifth, was released earlier this year and contains the single ‘Bring ‘Em Down’. You can check it out below:
