LCD Soundsystem to return with new album this year

James Murphy: “We’re not just playing Coachella. We’re playing all over”.

Holy moly. LCD Soundsystem have announced that they are to return with a new album this year. Just days after it was confirmed that the band would headline this year’s Coachella Festival, charismatic frontman James Murphy posted a lengthy statement on the band’s website explaining their decision to return. The band had initially split in 2011, with Murphy indicating that This Is Happening would be the group’s last record. Read the statement in full here.

“We’re not just playing Coachella. We’re playing all over. We’re not just having some reunion tour. We’re releasing a record (sometime this year—still working on it, actually)” – James Murphy

LCD Soundsystem will headline Coachella along with Calvin Harris and Guns ‘N’ Roses. Other acts set to play at the festival include Flume, Ice Cube, A$AP Rocky, Foals, Sufjan Stevens, Deerhunter, Beach House, Wolf Alice, Ellie Goulding, and more.

The band had initially called time on their 10 years together after an amazing four hour show at New York’s Madison Square Garden, with guest appearances from Arcade Fire, Reggie Watts, and others. The band did, however, return on Christmas Eve 2015 with a new Christmas song titled ‘Christmas Will Break Your Heart.
