Launchbox: Wardance

Grunge has never sounded fresher. Like grunge rockers Bush they come from West London, but unlike them, they have done a fantastic job of taking on an old skool sound and making it sound as exciting as when it was first heard by the greats around the time of Nirvana.  Having performed for us under their last guise as ‘The Sirens’, Wardance are  really ramping up their act.

With July’s House Of Savages we’ve done something a little different; something a little special.  We’ve got a line-up of no less than five of our favorite emerging acts from London town and the surrounding areas. We’re profiling everything from scuzz to indie rock to full on punk, but overall theses are bands that we think are killer and we want to have a party with in our cool East London venue.

“Free Radicals” plays to all the strengths of proper grunge and rock n roll. With one hell of a chorus with the ultimate sing-a-long / tab downloader melody it’s one to have a mosh too. “Reality” reminds me of all the raspy vocals and shredding tunes that filled the 90s and 00s in the alternative rock scene but it’s far from feeling old. “Guiding Light” opens with the same chugging riff as “Burning Bridges” by the Foo Fighters, but opens out into a far more thoughtful hip-swaying number, with (at times) a reminder of Elliott Smith’s work. Gorgeous combination.

Wardance are an act of persistence and with a strong catalogue of music. Looking as daper in clothing as they are spot on in performance,  this a fun gig, leaving you humming tunes and searching for those names online to listen again. Seeing a band in person though leaves far more of an impression that listening on a Soundcloud page, so we look forward to seeing you down at The George Tavern later this week.
