LaunchBox: Mountain Bird – Violent Night

Mountain Bird is the new project of songwriter, arranger and producer Adam Ohman, now joined live by his band Ella, David, Victor, Dennis and Sam.

The Swedes latest single ‘Violent Night’, follow on from the groups debut ‘Don’t Mind’. Both tracks are ambitious creations emerged in a dream-pop soundscape.

Ohman is not afraid to where his influences on his sleeve, quite literally, getting a Sigur Rós tattoo stating “They were actually a big reason I started this crazy thing”, “It now sleeps against my heart forever”. His love for Sigur Rós can be clearly heard in ‘Violent Night’, a crude sounding start is cut short with a crash of symbols that lift the curtain Mountain Birds layered, atmospheric sound. Samples dart in and out between a haunting guitar line.

Verses take a more classic shape but the choruses are as big as you could wish them to be. Pounding, echoed drums and a white noise feel the space as Ohman’s lets out a longing scream/ yelp that seems to say more than any lyric could.

Violent Night’ delivers a soundscape not dissimilar to the noise of M83, Explosions In the Sky and Mogwai. Mountain Bird have well and truly succeeded in producing an epic track which shows touches of brilliance. I can only imagine what they sound like live.
