Johnny Rotten’s Sexist Rant Against Carrie Bickmore

The Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd anarchist John Lydon, aka Johnny Rotten, sparked controversy following an interview with Australia’s Network 10 show The Project.

Speaking to Rotten prior to his show in Brisbane, the interview quickly turned sour following the involvement of Carrie Bradshaw, who requested his personal opinion on the death of Margaret Thatcher, and the British punk-rocker told her to “”Hey missus! Whoever you are, you need to be quiet, your voice is too loud for me.”

Remaining calm in the matter, Bickmore attempted to re-initiate the question and was greeted by Rotten’s rant, “Now listen, when a man is talking, do not interrupt. You sound like one of them dreadful damn birds I don’t like. You be polite… you’ve got to learn what manners and respect is.”

Aiming to salvage any part of the interview, fellow panellists began to question Rotten, but were quickly informed that they should shut up as they were too loud to talk in the ear-piece. Rotten stated that the panellists were acting like excitable children and that is was expected whilst speaking to a “proper man of the universe”, which was accompanied by a Nazi salute.

Comedian Dave Hughes quickly terminated the sour interview, with Bickmore stating “bad press is his thing, but his thing ain’t funny, it’s just damn rude”. The panellists apologised for not supporting her during the interview, although she didn’t need it, and Andrew Rochford ended the discussion summarising Rotten as “a flat out, sexist, misogynist pig”.
