Interview: To Be Frank

Developing his already authentic sound through his debut EP- ‘Nothing’, producer, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, To Be Frank was included in the very impressive line up for Latitude Festival this Summer.

I caught up with Frank just before the festival kicked off.

Hi Frank, You very recently released your latest piece of work- ‘Nothing’ EP. How has the response been to that?

It’s been really good I think. It was always going to be interesting to see what the response was to my first ep but I’m really pleased that people seem to like it.

Listening to the EP, it seems to carry a pretty developed sound- do you feel your sound has changed at all since you first started out in music?

For sure I have worked on my music for about 15 years so things have definitely changed for me over that time. Everyday I feel it’s getting stronger.

What influenced or encouraged you to make a career from music in the first place? Do you have a musical background or was it just something that happened?

I have an artistic family, I’ve always been creative from a young age and I have two brothers who are amazing musicians so we have played together since we were kids, it was normal to jam all night long together.

You’re set to play Latitude Festival this weekend- how are you feeling about that? You’re part of a pretty big line up this year, that must be amazing?

I’m excited to be playing, it’s right next to my house so it’s easy to get to, it’s a great lineup and I feel honoured to be a part of it and represent my local area.

From previous festival experience, do you enjoy the festival vibe more than an ordinary gig, or is it all the same to you?

It’s definitely a different thing, each gig is a new experience I enjoy them all.

Lastly, what do you have set in the pipeline for the near future? Any big plans coming up that you can tell us?!

There are lots of exciting things happening, more shows and more records. I am playing Wilderness next after Latitude so looking forward to that. Sorry that’s all I can say for now.

Thanks a million for the interview Frank, best of luck with everything!

Thanks Wynona, what a great name you have!
