Let’s hand it to Skullcandy they have been consistently trying to improve their entire range year in year out. Each year it feels they are at the cutting edge of trends, developing beautifully crafted products that are affordable and offer brilliantly tuned audio. We’ve had the pleasure of being sent an updated version of their infamous bass heavy Crusher range – The Crusher Wireless.
Sound
My first impression from the Crusher 1.0 was thinking how gimmicky, but how oddly convincing the need for such an obscene amount of bass in my life actually is. I distinctly remember struggling to listen with the subwoofer on for more than one song, it seems Skullcandy have taken this on board and implemented a Stereo Haptic Bass subwoofer in the cans which heighten the musical experience without a bass induced headache.
What drew me in from the off about the Crush Wireless is the Hi-Fi refined acoustics that manages to compete heavily with the Bowers & Wilkins P7’s sound. Pretty controversial statement that, but honestly you’ll find the listening experience like no other Skullcandy headphones to date – you can feel that time has been taken with the crafting of these headphones.
I’ve found most of my audiophile friends are anti wireless headphones due to technical restrictions that wireless technology has currently and I agree to a point. However I found that the thoughtfully provided jack and lead that came with the Crusher Wireless actually held the headphones back and doesn’t give you the next level experience you’re looking for.
Performance
Boasting a jaw dropping 40 hour battery life can see you needing to recharge the Crusher Wireless maybe once a week. I’ve got to highlight how consistant the performance is on a single charge, always packing a punch a and stepping up when you’re thirsty for that bass boost – something that the Crusher 1.0 struggled with as it relied on a single domestic battery for power.
I’ve got to give a special mention to the Crusher Wireless’ outstanding performance when used as a phone headset. The mix of the noise cancelling feature and fantastic inbuilt microphone isolation makes phone calls clear for the listener and receiver – perfect for on the go.
Style
It’s pretty bonkers to see how Skullcandy have moved heavily away Crusher 1.0’s bulky style and redesigned the Crusher Wireless into a slim, stylish fashion statement. The cushions include enable a comfortable listening experience that reminds that way for extended periods of time.
The only downside is that the plastic used for the casing seems a little flimsy which leads me to believe that I would definitely want to see the next instalment of the Crushers have a more premium finish that gives it that extra touch.
Summary
It’s safe to say that overall I’m in love with the Crusher Wireless. It’s perfect for those on the go, who don’t want to spend too much on a decent pair of headphone. Especially perfect for those who are brave enough to say that sometimes that extra bass boost is exactly what they want for their headphone listening experience.
