Grammys 2014 Recap

Yet one more big bang in the awards season has passed us by now; last night it was the turn of the Grammys to celebrate all of the musical achievements that took place in 2013.

French dance duo, Daft Punk, were the big winners of the night taking home four awards including two of the biggest three, Best Album and Best Record beating the likes of Robin Thicke and Taylor Swift. When accepting the award for Best Record (for ‘Get Lucky‘, of course) Pharrell Williams said that “I bet France is really proud of these robots right now!”

The robots got up to perform that smash-hit Get Lucky in an even funkier version with Stevie Wonder which saw the whole audience, including Paul McCartney dance in style.

Although she was snubbed of four awards including Best Album for her fourth record and third consecutive Number 1, Taylor Swift received a standing ovation for a raw and powerful rendition of ‘All Too Well‘ which saw the young starlet whip her hair as she tore through the heart-wrenching song.

Another stand-out performance came from Beyoncé (whose fifth, self-titled album was not eligible for awards this year but is expected to be seen across the nominations next year) who got on stage to give a sexy, steamy performance of hit ‘Drunk In Love‘ which saw husband Jay Z join on stage for his verse. He was lucky enough to scoop an award for his collaboration with Justin Timberlake ‘Holy Grail‘ and during his speech joked that he would be able to bring home a cup to his baby daughter.

Lorde became the youngest recipient of the coveted Song of The Year award at only 17 years old, winning for her minimalist anthem ‘Royals‘. She thanked her family, producer and label before walking off stage. She was visibly nervous but in an incredibly endearing fashion.

British talent Foxes won for her collaboration with Zedd in the Best Dance Recording Category. She thanked Zedd for giving her the opportunity to sing on the track as well as noting that this was a “dream come true”. Her debut album ‘Glorious’ featuring Top 20 single ‘Youth‘ is out this March.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis dominated the Rap Category while also taking home the award for Best New Artist, primarily thanking their fans but also mentioning that they made their now Platinum album independently without a record label.
