Album Review: We Are Scientists – TV En Francais

Thirteen years into their musical journey, We Are Scientists are back with their fourth album, ‘TV En Francais’, set for release on March 3rd.

Following massive success with previous records ‘With Love & Squalor’ and ‘Brain Thrust Mastery’, this forthcoming album is anticipated as their finest work to date. And let me tell you; it’s damn impressive.

“We wanted to get at the seemingly inevitable parallax that happens between two people in a relationship, that sense that you get the gist of what the other person needs and wants and how they feel about you, but only the gist — you’re relying on these broad cues a lot of the time to tell you what the hell’s going on.”

-Keith Murray

Opening on a prominent bass platform, reflecting a Kaiser Chiefs vibe, ‘What You Do Best’ takes off. A strong Indie track leaving “go on, do what you do best” ringing around your head for quite some time.

First single from the album, ‘Dumb Luck’ transcends a more hyped, bouncy track. A real feel-good melody which is bound to go down super well at festivals this summer, and, between you and us, we believe they’re set for quite a few. Equipped with a gory yet fantastic music video, this track is already proving to be a hit.

Tracks like ‘Courage’ and ‘Slow Down’ take the prize for stand out tracks, with ‘Don’t Blow It’ not far behind. ‘Courage’ for its mellow build up to a steady moving alternative sound, and ‘Slow Down’, honestly? Maybe for the irony of it being a belter of a tune under the name ‘Slow Down’. Yeah, definitely that.

Wonderfully constructed album which was well worth the wait. A solid collection of tracks on a pivot of Alternative Indie vibes.
