Ghostpoet Announces ‘Meltdown’ Single

Two years on from the release of his Mercury nominated debut, ‘Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam’, Ghostpoet aka Obaro Ejimiwe announces ‘Meltdown’ – the first single from his sophomore album ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ which will be released on the 6th May 2013 through Play It Again Sam.

‘Meltdown’ premièred with a world exclusive play on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show, is a disarmingly honest tale of one of those break-ups where both parties simply drift apart. Scarring lyrics “you and me weren’t meant to be and someone somewhere knew it from the start” expertly encapsulate everyman honesty of thought, emotion, and shoulder-shrug acceptance of failed love. Guest vocalist Woodpecker Wooliams came to feature on ‘Meltdown’ really by chance – Obaro reached out for a vocalist on Twitter – it was all very last minute due to someone else cancelling – fans responded with Woodpecker Williams. She turned up at the studio almost immediately and recorded her part in just two takes.

On ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’, which was co-produced with the talented Richard Formby (Wild Beasts, Darkstar, Egyptian Hip-Hop) we see Ghostpoet’s talent has truly blossomed and that he’s pushing the boundaries even further in all directions. Immediately captivating and uniquely honest – the musings of Ghostpoet truly come to life when he performs live and to celebrate the release of ‘Some Say I So I Say Light’ Ghostpoet will be headlining a UK tour through out May. Ghostpoet alongside Brit award winner Tom Odell, will play the launch event for Record Store Day 2013. The event will take place 21st March at the iconic Rough Trade East venue.
