Fortitude Picks: 5 Acts Not To Be Missed At SEA SESSIONS ’14

Hey June, how’s it goin’?

Yeah, festival season is well underway, and the end of this month sees the arrival of the highly anticipated music and surfing event on the beautiful coast of Bundoran, County Donegal – Sea Sessions.

With an impressive line-up, a lot of which we’ve supported from quite an early stage, we thought we’d throw our two cents in and give you our five acts you definitely cannot miss in this year’s line-up.

The Dandy Warhols

These Portland natives are no new kids on the block. Having been around since 1994, the guys’ set is one creating higher expectations, and there’s no doubt they’ll deliver. 2012 saw the release of their latest album ‘This Machine’ so we’re expecting a lot of familiar tunes and festival anthems. Don’t miss these guys put a match to the opening Friday night.

Ron Pope

Possibly known more for his internet hit ‘A Drop In The Ocean’ than any other number, American singer/songwriter, Ron Pope showcases the best of his ability in his life performance. His latest album ‘Calling Off The Dogs’ sets out on a fuller note, as opposed to previous acoustic-styled creations. A definite one to catch at Sea Sessions this year.

The Strypes

Of course, the young Irish rock outfit hailing from Cavan. These guys have a sound that screams quality on record, but can you even imagine the vibe at a festival? Pure hard-hitting anthems set to really raise the bar in Bundoran this year, the guys will be sending guitar riffs flying across the Saturday headline slot.

Hudson Taylor

We couldn’t have an “Acts Not To Be Missed” list on Fortitude without giving Hudson Taylor a mention now could we? Pretty much flying the flag for Irish music at the moment, the folk pop duo are set to release their debut (currently untitled) album in September and are jetting off for a bunch of UK and European festivals in anticipation of the release. Their freshly recorded single ‘Battles’ comes out on June 15th and is just one of the many live stormers these guys have to belt out over a festival atmosphere.

Little Matador

Little Matador is essentially the new project from Snow Patrol lead guitarist, Nathan Connolly. The guys fire out a real raw sound filled with grit and power. Set for big heights, the band are set to support Biffy Clyro this Summer alongside You Me At Six at the hyped up Kilmainham gig series. Their début self-titled album was extremely well received across the board, and although it encapsulates a very different sound from that of Snow Patrol, Connolly admits it’s the style he loved to play before his Snow Patrol days. We’re really looking forward to catching their set at this year’s Sea Sessions.
