EP Review: The Nyx – ‘The Nyx’

Feisty four-piece The Nyx are a quartet not to be reckoned with. Everything about their self-titled EP is full frontal, in your face, undeniable, unattainable rawk. An impressive debut from the London ladies.

Kicking off with the all empowering ‘Fire Breathing Lady’, this track is certainly one to get your girl power on to and there’s an incredible video to go along with it. Front women Becky Wixon’s vocal matches the song’s energy perfectly, filled with pure grit and well, fire. This track is a head banger through and though. The next track ‘Hideaway’ offers front woman #2 Simone Picknett a chance to shine and boy, does she. The fact that this band has not one but two incredibly talented yet equally different lead singers is yet another reason that this band are a cut above the rest. Simone’s vocals soar wonderfully throughout ‘Hideaway’ whilst backed up with melodic licks and pulsating drum beats.

The second half of the EP introduces us to yet another blend of the Picknett/Wixon dream team with ‘Home’ giving you another chance to rock out in your bedroom and ‘Myself’ introducing a more grunge feel to the electric females.

Needless to say, this is an EP full of heart and bursting with energy and that all important female empowerment. These girls are doing it for themselves and nobody else and we’re very excited to see what’s to come next for The Nyx.

The Nyx’s self-titled EP is out now.
