Who said country music was dead? Not us and certainly not The Nickajack Men if their debut EP is anything to go by. These guys are following in the footstep of the likes of Alabama Shakes, but with their own Scottish stamp and we can’t wait to see what they get up to next.
The theme of the EP explores the difficulties and frustrations experienced by aspiring young musicians as they try to break free from the environment they have grown up in – something a lot of people can relate to. Kicking off with their latest single ‘Running’, this track sets the tone for the EP wonderfully. Lead singer Lewis White’s country twang combined with the band’s anthemic sound is a surefire winner for any alt-country fans out there.
‘Marilyn’ offers more of a 90s Britpop vibes for any of you old school fans out there. Imagine what Oasis would have sounded like if they released a country single and you’re basically there. Its catchy, fun and a feel-good summer hit. Following on ‘Erb’ showcases yet another side to The Nickajack Men, incorporating elements of gospel and blues to make their sound even more unique.
The EP closes on ‘When The Winter Comes’, which introduces us to the band’s classic rock sound. A Sound Bruce Springsteen would be proud of.
The Nickajack Men are here to prove the Brits can do country just as well as the US, and then some.
