We first featured innovative electronic artist J.Juva a few months back when we were fortunate enough to premiere his ambient single ‘Zebrafish‘ and it was all kinds of awesome. Well now, we’re back with J.Juva after a short break and we want you to know how fantastic his debut EP ‘Protozoa’ really is.
Released slap bang in the middle of a pandemic, you could call J.Juva a risk taker, sure. However, its also worth noting that the quality of this debut really is something else – COVID or not. Each track on the vibrant EP takes the listener on a journey and the more you listen to it, the more new sounds you’ll continue to discover.
If you’re a fan of the likes of Mount Kimbie or Flying Lotus, you are in for a real treat and J.Juva – aka Joel Neale – is clearly heavily influenced by both. Throughout the EP, Joel combines off-kilter drums beats with woozy synths and celestial soundscapes in order to create an instrumental bliss for the listener as a result. How this hasn’t ended up on some sort of ‘study beats’ playlist on Spotify yet is astounding.
A stand-out track for us personally is the previously released single ‘Miasma’. Channelling the likes of Bonobo, J.Juva interweaves analogue instruments with dreamy electronics, creating something totally infectious as a result that will definitely having you missing going ‘out, out’ even more than you probably already are. Sorry, not sorry…
So, what are you waiting for? Get listening now and forget for a second that we’re back in lockdown and immerse yourselves in some ambient electronica for the win.
