Following the success of their latest album, Kin, released earlier this year, The Duke Spirit are back with a new EP.
Serenade is a short, but incredibly sweet, collection of four tracks, each oozing an ethereal, emotive power that has become the band’s signature sound. Of the EP, front-woman Liela Moss says:
“It’s a collection of songs that share the sense of running out of time to fix things, fix people – they are a tide slipping away from fingers…”
The EP’s opener, and title track, flows with delicate melodies and a haunting, emotion-strewn beauty, akin to the likes of previous single ‘Wounded Wing’; exposing an endearing fragility, it’s a powerfully moving start to the collection. Second track ‘Make It Alright’, however, offers a slightly more gritty, raw rock sound, whilst maintaining the subtle, delicate power of Moss’ vocals,
The highlight of the collection, ‘Steel Love’, oozes an enthralling cinematic intensity. Dramatic riffs flow alongside sweeping vocals, creating an eerily captivating aura as the track builds towards its crashing climax with a fierce passion.
Finally, ‘Throw Water On The Fire’ showcases the versatility of Moss’ distinctive vocals, as she switches from impassioned falsetto to raw, smooth melodies. A gently sparkling end to another truly enchanting creation from The Duke Spirit.
